In an effort to reduce poverty, improve the local environment and slow climate change, Biochar Earth helps smallholder farmers convert agricultural waste into biochar that repairs soil damage, improves crop productivity and permanently removes carbon from the atmosphere. At the same time, Biochar Earth also helps provide them an extra revenue stream to improve their livelihoods and the local community at large from selling carbon credits.
Our approach involves educating smallholder farmers on how to transition from burning their crop waste to converting it into biochar. We verify the amount of carbon removal from the environment, enabling them to enter international carbon offset markets and receive immediate payment. This not only benefits these farmers but also encourages others to embrace biochar over burning.
We educate smallholder farmers in sustainable agriculture, specifically how to create biochar from agricultural waste to enhance crop yields and combat the effects of climate change. This shift helps prevent the release of substantial amounts of greenhouse gasses, smog-related pollutants, and harmful PM2.5 particles typically associated with open-field burning.
Then, we collaborate closely with local communities and independent organizations to verify the biochar production in accordance with the internationally recognized EBC C-sink standard. Our tracking and reporting solution for smartphones ensures accuracy and transparency throughout the process. Once we've successfully removed CO2 from the atmosphere (commonly referred to as "sinking" it), our team collaborates closely with clients or trading partners who acquire C-sink certificates to help them achieve their CSR/ESG goals.
The proceeds from our initiatives, alongside future investments, are dedicated to enhancing the well-being of rural communities and uplifting the underrepresented. This will be achieved by further reducing carbon dioxide and emissions. Our team’s commitment extends to promoting gender and income equality through fair and inclusive hiring procedures that welcome those who were previously marginalized.
